A book cover is something that protects the pages.

What is it used for?

 It gives the reader a sense of what will or what can happen in the book.

-In most books, it shows the overlaying theme and gives you a sense of what will happen in the book. Or not...depends on the book...

What is a book cover?  A book cover is the protective covering of a book that binds the pages together.

What is it used for? It is used to convey information about the book and to draw in prospective audiences.

What kind of information must be included on it?  Usually included on the cover: Title of book, author of book, an image from the story, and occasionally some sort of quip or phrase.

I used a Gaussian blur filter on the image behind the window and a liquify filter on the ooze behind the title and author.
